| My name is JB Ablaza Macatulad and I'm a web / print designer with over 10+ years experience in the industry.
Originally from the Philippines, I moved to Rhode Island in 1988 for boarding school. I then proceeded to receive a BA in English Literature from Georgetown University in 1996, where I learned to fake a lot of diseases, wear baggy clothing and stare at the ceilings of abandoned warehouses wondering, “What the hell am I doing with my life?” It was only when I found my way out to San Francisco did I realize that art & design was the only thing I wanted to do. After receiving a BFA in Fine Art / Illustration from the Academy of Art in 2000, I worked as a web designer for thriveonline, the Webby award-winning healthcare division of Oprah Winfrey’s high-profile website for women, oxygen.com. Having since migrated to the web, I now enjoy the world’s shortest commute as a freelance designer and boast a diverse skill set which includes vivarium jeujing, pug conflict resolution, and jewelry appraisal. I’m happily married to my beautiful wife Renee, with whom I share a home with our precocious pugs Henry & Mona, an Argentine black & white tegu named Juanchi, two red-eared sliders named Herbie & Hank, and a small army of leopard geckos. I dream of becoming a hydroponic farmer by day, web ninja by night.
